While observational astronomy is temporarily on hold due to continued poor weather and cold temperatures (I don't like that chilled to the bone feeling), plans are progressing to construct a free public observatory at a site to be donated. Two telescopes are already committed to be used temporarily until a larger observatory instrument can be found to occupy the dome which is in the negotiations stage. A concrete base and power source is also being planned. Planned astronomy classes are firmed up and scheduled to begin Jan03 The Great Western Astronomers schedule of public and private SkyTours and telescope workshops will resume in March. The WNCC observatory in Carson City is slated for opening, also in March. The demise of the planetarium in Reno will create a chance for the true, progressive hobbiests to bring Astronomy back to the public in a rewarding fashion.
